I’m Alive Again

Not that anyone ever missed me, but I miss the growth that comes from keeping my blog consistently. I’ve finally got things set up again. I took a vacation from blogging until I could find time to properly upgrade wordpress or retrieve my year of entries I lost. I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to get back to it and so I’ve decided to start blogging again anyway. You can still read many of my March 2004 to December 2006 entries at www.nealsblog.net.

Moving

This will be my last post here. I’m moving my blog to www.nealharmon.net for two reasons:

my old blog software, I’ve discovered, is still messed up after the upgrade and I don’t have the time to change it.
I might as well switch to my name . Though 2004-2007, it was fun to do nealsblog.net. Maybe one day I’ll get it all switched over.

Jason and Aaron Blogging

I helped Jason and Aaron get started blogging on private fleets this last week. I should be practicing what I preach. They bought books about it and are very excited to make their first post on January 1, 2007.

I screwed up wordpress when upgrading from 1.5 to 2.0 and haven’t had time to fix it until now. I’m excited to be able to blog again.

A More Perfect Union – 10 DVDs – Repopularize Constitution

The National Center for Constitutional Studies is offering 10 DVDs of the movie A More Perfect Union
for the price of one. They’re inviting us to purchase the movie, along
with a copy of the Constitution and share them with friends and
community. I’m for helping our nation to understand its founding and
Constitution and will definitely order some copies. I encourage
everyone else to do the same. This movie about the Constitutional
Convention is extremely well done.

Persuasion: Beyond Usability and User Centered Design

I’ve been reading Call to Action: Secret Formulas to Improve Online Results and the authors advocate persuasion as the real goal of a commercial website, not usability.

Wandering through a website endlessly, but very easily, doesn’t do customers any good. They need answers. Answering the questions of different personas that visit your site persuades them to stick around and eventually buy.

The Persuasive Process
1. Who needs to be persuaded?
2. What actions does this person need to take?
3. How will you effectively persuade that person?

The book is fantastic and only getting better. More thoughts to come.

Searching for Utah Real Estate

We’re back to searching for Utah Real Estate. We’d like to move into a bigger place where Michael can play in the yard. This is hard work looking for a home. We have searched from Payson to American Fork and haven’t found anything we like within our price range. I wish we could take the location of one, the interior of another, the yard of another and the creek of the last one and slap them together into one home. Oh well.
